Met You In A Dream

by Joe Davis and Jocelyn Scott

I don’t come here often
I keep to myself
I was not looking
For someone else
Just some pretentious coffee
And a vacant stare
Perfectly discontented
And unprepared
For your words and the something that stirred
The moment that you spoke
Why do I feel like I just awoke

I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
The solitude of sleep meets the company I keep
And you’ll be in my dreams again tonight

Is this wishful fiction
Sometimes I read too much in
But I swear I know your
Sweet, lopsided grin
I wonder what your name is
And how our story goes
And what we have in common
And how I’ll ever know
You walk in and my universe spins
And all the colors run
Fact and figment blurring into one

I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
The solitude of sleep meets the company I keep
And you’ll be in my dreams again tonight

What kind of magic is at play
At your table by the door
If you turned and looked my way
Would you notice something more than than there’s supposed to be
Some kind of muted memory

Oh, familiar stranger
Denizen of my mind
Are you seeking something
Could I be what you find
There are a hundred things that
I don’t have the nerve to say
I think last night I loved you
What does that mean today
I hide well in my cynical shell
But you have just exposed
The hopeful dreamer I let no one know

I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
I think I met you in a dream last night
The solitude of sleep meets the company I keep
And you’ll be in my dreams again tonight
You’ll be in my dreams again tonight
I’ll see you in my dreams again tonight
